Now you can stream episodes of Friends on Netflix while you sip on a cuppa at Singapore’s first Central Perk at Central Mall — and it’s all thanks to the efforts of one very, very determined superfan. (Looks like the cafe owner isn’t the only hardcore fan of the cult TV series here.)
On the first day of 2018, Netflix made one man’s entire year by announcing that it’s now streaming all 10 seasons of the popular American sitcom in Singapore — almost 14 years after the finale aired in May 2004.
“While Singapore learnt Spanish with the Cali Cartel, fell for Steve Harrington, went gaga over nasi lemak and grumbled about public transport, one guy’s obsession over his favourite squad of six never wavered,” Netflix said in a Facebook post.
The name of that dedicated soul? Gavin Neo. Apparently, the superfan had been relentlessly begging the streaming giant for six entire months to include Friends in its Singapore line-up. Finally, his wish was granted, making it a great start to his 2018.

Netizens praised Neo for his tireless persistence, while some took the opportunity to toss in requests of their own. ‘Tis yet another tale of how unfaltering appeals to companies on social media can lead to very fruitful results.
