Lottery ticket holders will all be choking with bated breath tonight at 9.30pm awaiting results of Singapore Pools’ 2016 Toto Hongbao Draw.
The prize? Oh nothing, just a mere $13.9 million — the biggest ever prize money to date. Initially a jackpot prize of $12 million, the grand prize now stands at nearly $14 million due to the fact there were no winners in the previous two draws. Oh yes.
Long queues have been snaking at the various Singapore Pools branches around the island since the launch of the TOTO Hong Bao Draw. It’s bound to go on till tonight too, considering ticket sales close at 9pm — half an hour before the draw begins.
The only way you’re getting your hands on that $13.9 million prize (even lesser, because taxes and all) is by correctly picking all six winning numbers. If there’s more than one winner, the jackpot will be shared among them — but honestly, who wants to share that pool.
Singapore’s largest jackpot however pales in comparison to the recent Powerball lottery in the United States — USD1,586,400,000. Prior to that, the Spanish Christmas Lottery held a top prize of €720 million in 2012.
