Winner for Earth Hour 2014 short film competition will get to open for Spiderman

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Singapore today launched Use Your Power, the short film competition for Earth Hour 2014.

This comes after the international announcement made on Feb. 13 that Spiderman is going to be the ambassador for this year’s edition of the campaign, which aims to reduce significantly the carbon footprint of the world, and raise awareness on environmental concerns.

The Use Your Power contest is open to students from all Institutes of Higher Learning and applies to all disciplines of film, including animation and documentary. The three-minute entry must address any or all of the key actions stated in The Challenge, a mission statement of sorts related to Earth Hour, such as taking shorter showers and switching to LED light bulbs. Read more about the contest requirements on the WWF Singapore website.

Shortlisted entries will be sent to Marc Webb, the director of The Amazing Spiderman 2, for assessment and judging. These entries stand a chance of getting shown at the Singapore premiere of the film, and the winner will be screened at the Earth Hour event at The Float@Marina Bay on Mar. 29.
