Wi-fi connection trial at 28 MRT stations to be available from mid-2014

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will introduce a wi-fi connection trial across 28 MRT station platforms in Singapore from mid-2014 as part of the Land Transport Master Plan initiatives to provide better service on the public transport network for commuters.

Wireless@SG will be progressively available at all North-East Line (NEL) stations and 12 other stations with high commuter usage and is aimed to enhance wireless connectivity for commuters during the time they wait for their trains.

The 12 selected stations are Bishan, Buona Vista, City Hall, Choa Chu Kang, Dhoby Ghaut, Harbourfront, Jurong East, Orchard, Outram Park, Paya Lebar, Raffles Place and Serangoon.

Tenders for Wireless@SG’s implementation have already been called and the trial will be monitored for a period of two years by the LTA before deciding whether it will be extended to other MRT stations.
