Torrential rain swept through Singapore this morning, obstructing traffic, distressing drivers, and submerging vehicles.

Emergency responders from the Singapore Civil Defence Force, or SCDF, had to evacuate motorists stuck in flood water at the traffic junction between Tampines Avenue 10 and Pasir Ris Drive 12 at 7:40am today, they told reporters. The flood came about after hours of heavy rain throughout most of Singapore.

About 13 vehicles were stuck, SCDF said. Two people were assessed for injuries. A man was also photographed being wheeled away on a stretcher.

Other motorists were ushered to nearby sheltered areas.

Videos and photos of the scene showed cars, trucks and buses in the area. The driver of a white sedan was filmed reversing the vehicle slowly while holding up a plastic bag and trying to keep it away from the water.

Warnings alerting the public to the flood were issued at around 8am. An update around an hour later said that the flood has subsided.

Other areas that could potentially be flooded due to the rain were Choa Chu Kang Ave 1, Woodlands Road and Choa Chu Kang Way, another alert said, as water levels in drains and canals hit 90%.

Moderate to heavy thundery showers were expected to continue over many areas of Singapore.
