It is estimated that one in four to six pregnancies come to an untimely end with a miscarriage. And as parents grieve for their babies who’ve prematurely passed on, one group of volunteers works behind the scenes to offer them a small dose of comfort by creating tiny clothes to bury their little ones in.

Angel Gowns Singapore, now known as Angel Hearts, was launched in 2016 to fashion baby clothes out of donated wedding gowns and bridal wear for bereaved parents to use as burial clothing, or angel gowns. Each gown features a small charm sewn onto it, with another charm placed on a card for parents to hold on to as a keepsake.

Since then, the community of women from all walks of life has meticulously produced almost 1,000 gowns, wraps, bonnets, and beanies for babies who now rest in peace. It’s the hospital staff who hand over the apparel to parents, but the non-profit organization sometimes hears back from grateful individuals who thank it for its heart-warming work.

“Because of you, I could be sent to heaven dressed with dignity,” wrote one parent on a letter in the voice of her 14-week child.

And that is perhaps the most compelling reason why the women volunteer their time and effort to do what they do.

Watch Our Better World’s video below for a short introduction to Angel Hearts and to hear from some of the parents whose lives have been impacted.

If you’re keen on lending a helping hand, the group hosts sewing courses for parents who are interested in contributing to the making of angel gowns.
