’Tis the season of giving, and Santa comes in all forms. For the residents of Eunos Crescent, father Christmas operates beyond just the Yuletide season. Meet Ah Gong, the elderly uncle who goes around the residential estates to scavenge discarded (but perfectly usable) items and lays them out in one spot for everyone to pick and purchase.

The recycling enterprise isn’t for profit either — the man sells ‘em off at prices that don’t go above $2. He doesn’t even accept money from those who aren’t well-off, choosing instead to just give the items (and even money) away to the poor and foreign laborers in the estate as well. The fiercely independent septuagenarian refuses to depend on government assistance, even after getting diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago. Truly a tough old bird. You can find him most days near the carpark at Block 6 Eunos Crescent before 11am.
