69-year-old Lee Yao Ji barely had any time to react as he saw a red taxi barrelling right straight towards him across the driveway of the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
The disturbing incident was caught on dashcam last Saturday afternoon, with passersby expressing shock and horror over seeing Lee tossed in the air after the out-of-control vehicle ploughed into him.
He lost consciousness before he was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital — and fortunately survived the accident. Shin Min Daily News reported that he remains warded at the hospital’s high dependency ward, and his injuries are concentrated around the head area.
“I don’t know him and until now, he still has not visited me,” Lee said of the taxi driver. “I want to see the video and I am not ruling out a lawsuit”.
Due to the workplace-related injury, Lee is confident that the hotel will compensate him. He has worked at the MBS hotel for six years, and manages a team of six valets under him.
The taxi driver — a 52-year-old man — was also conveyed to the Singapore General Hospital following the crash. Trans-Cab and MBS are said to be investigating the incident.
