Easter Sunday morning saw the emergence of a spankin’ new train on the North-South Line — one that sports a sleek exterior and high-tech interiors with LCD display panels and LED lighting.
It’s all part of a two-month trial by SMRT, which rolled out the first of 57 new trains fitted with an upgraded signalling system and energy-efficient features. The highlight would have to be the new display panels, which show information on places of interests near the various MRT stations.
Cool news to us — but to the segment of avid trainspotting enthusiasts, the new model of SMRT trains seems to be really, really exhilarating. These dudes know their Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CSR Qingdao Sifang C151B from their Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151, and it’s actually pretty delightful to witness their pure elation riding the new train.
But their enthusiasm definitely couldn’t breach the magnitude set by premier trainspotter Jay Tan. Praise be to Jay.
