If you saw someone in your line at the supermarket desperately searching their pockets and pouches for cash to pay the remaining $2 for their groceries, would you jump ship to another queue or open up your wallet to top up their bill?
Apparently, it seems like many Singaporeans would offer help out of the goodness of their hearts.
A social experiment conducted by radio station Gold 905 — as part of its Make Someone’s Day campaign — saw its deejays secretly watching unsuspecting shoppers at Giant Hypermart in Tampines. The aim was to see what people would do when they realized the woman (actually an actress) at the cashier counter was going to leave her groceries behind because she did not have enough money to pay for them.
Although there were a few who declined to help, numerous shoppers came forward to offer to top up $2 for the lady — and in the spirit of generosity, deejays Mike Kasem, Vernetta Lopez, Chris Ho, William Xavier and Denise Tan paid for their groceries as well.
Watch how it all played out below.
For more kind-hearted antics from the campaign, watch this other initiative from the radio station — in March, the deejays surprised shoppers at the supermarket by footing the entire bill for their groceries.
