The media circus was in full flurry at the Istana today when North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had a sit-down with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. After all, it was a historic moment in the lead up to yet another historic moment — this would be the first time a Singaporean premier held a meeting with a North Korean leader.
As these typically things go, their meeting was highly hectic and filled with minders, other ministers, translators and awkward gestures. This would also be one of the rare times we’re actually hearing the mysterious dictator speak, and he sounds… bored? Even more entertaining is the fact that this clip published by the Prime Minister’s Office is filled with clamoring voices telling people to wait and shove off. Short and shaky the clip may be, but it’s a proper, official peek into how things went between both leaders today. In any case, PM Lee will surely inform reporters on what he discussed with Kim later tonight.
“The entire world is focusing on the historic summit between the DPRK and the US, and thanks to your sincere efforts… we were able to complete the preparations for the historic summit, and I would like to thank you for that,” The Straits Times quoted Kim as saying.
Kim and his delegation arrived in an Air China flight at 2:35pm today at Changi Airport, where they were transported in an impressive motorcade all the way to St. Regis, where they’ll be staying for the duration of the upcoming summit with Trump. The US president himself will be arriving tonight about 8:35pm and will have his own meeting with PM Lee tomorrow.
