For a human rights lawyer and activist, M. Ravi definitely doesn’t come off as the good guy here.

The troubled man was charged in court on Saturday (Aug 12) for being a public nuisance at the Sri Mariamman Temple and using abusive language on its patrons (all of which were captured by himself on Facebook Live).

Oh, and he was charged for voluntarily causing hurt to lawyer and Singapore People’s Party member Jeanette Chong-Aruldoss, who recounted how she was pushed down to the ground by her former associate. Ravi also faces charges of committing a rash act against Chong-Aruldoss’ colleague Nakoorsha Abdul Kadir, who came to her aid during the dispute outside their office at Eugene Thuraisingam LLP on Aug 8.

Now, the cards are extremely stacked against Ravi — a clip of him allegedly assaulting Chong-Aruldoss has popped up online. It doesn’t look good for him at all, even as he loudly insisted that she was the one who pushed him first.

It is believed that the altercation was due to Ravi’s attempt to intimidate the 54-year-old Chong-Aruldoss about some dispute regarding his former firm, where he worked at. Ravi had his contract terminated at the firm, allegedly due to his repeated harassment of its staff and frequent baseless denunciations of Eugene Thuraisingam himself.

Currently, Ravi is being remanded for two weeks at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric observation, and he will have his case heard again on Aug 25. The New Paper reported that Ravi had reacted angrily to the decision, accusing the prosecution of lying about his mental health and demanding that the judge disqualify herself from the case due to possible bias.
