Last Friday afternoon, shoppers and retailers at Orchard Central received a massive shock when a teenage boy crashed through a plasterboard ledge at the fourth storey of the mall and fell to his death in front of Kanshoku Ramen Bar.

The 17-year-old was believed to have dropped his mobile phone on the ledge at the mall’s link bridge to Orchard Gateway around 4pm, and he attempted to retrieve it by vaulting over a railing. Unfortunately, it gave way, causing him to crash through the plasterboard and hit the ground face-up.

Leaked CCTV footage has since popped up online, showing the exact moment when the teenager jumped over the railing, while his companion appeared to be recording his deed on her phone. You can see the exact moment when it all went wrong as his friend reacted in shock and looked over the railing to see where he landed.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to TODAY, the teen started coughing up blood after someone pumped on his chest, presumably during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

He was conveyed unconscious by ambulance to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he died soon after.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” said Mavis Seow, chief operating officer of the retail business group at Far East Organization.

“We are cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation.”
