Hands up if you remember the giant fish tank at Wisma Atria’s basement. The 1.5m-tall aquarium — home to hundreds of fish across 12 different species — was an icon of the mall for two decades, from the time it was built in 1986 until its eventual removal in April 2008.
The marine creatures were brought to their new home at Underwater World Singapore (which closed down last year), and they were very much missed by shoppers at the mall.
So if you’d like to experience a rush of childhood nostalgia, watch the video below. It’s got footage of the shopping centre’s fish tank in 1989 (including lots of close-up shots of turtles, for some reason), as well as old school Lucky Plaza and Ngee Ann City way back when it was still under construction. Quite the rare sight.
