The “Karma’s a Bitch challenge” is a meme popularised by Chinese teens — a ridiculous re-tooling of an overdramatic line by Veronica Lodge in teen soap Riverdale, itself remixed in a remix of Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci”. The meme involves the do-er looking plain and vanilla as possible, but when the drop in the song hits, the camera is briefly covered and uncovered to reveal the individual in his or her most attractive.
It’s a wholesome meme that enjoyed a brief time in the spotlight back in January. Facebook user Bernard Sia Jun Hong, however, might be responsible for bringing it back — and for a whole new purpose too. To celebrate the end of his term as a full-time National Serviceman (NSF), the man flickered from his Republic of Singapore Navy uniform to his civilian threads. Complete with the slapping of his pink identity card (only returned at the end of the NSF’s period) on his forehead, of course, because it’s tradition.
