In case you’ve been living in an internet-less fallout shelter all this while, the film adaptation of Singaporean-American Kevin Kwan’s novel Crazy Rich Asians is getting major attention worldwide (both good and bad). And in case you missed out, the South China Morning Post published a video feature that purportedly has one of Singapore’s “most-in-the-know locals” showing where the real uber-wealthy Asians hang out in the city.
In the SCMP clip, Singapore-born Esther Quek — Editor-in-Chief of luxury lifestyle rag CitizenK Arabia — takes viewers to places such as the Marina Bay Sands rooftop joint CÉ LA VI, members-only social club 1880, and, tourist trap CBD hawker center Lau Pa Sat. As nicely shot the feature was, Singaporeans savaged Quek (for her ostentatious style and odd accent) and the questionable choices of hotspots being shown off.
Oof, the burns. But none have gone to such a degree of exuberant hilarity as creative professional Yeo Tze Hern, the man behind humor vlogging channel YEOLO. Here’s the video feature that the crazy real Asians of Singapore deserves, featuring Good Morning towels, cheap slippers, Sheng Shiong supermarket and the Kopitiam franchise.
