A horrifying scene erupted along Pioneer Road North yesterday evening when a driver allegedly lost control of his private bus, sending the vehicle crashing into several cars and a cyclist.
It was around 6pm when the accident transpired — dashcam footage was uploaded on the Beh Chia Lor Facebook page. The chilling clip shows how the runaway bus narrowly missed colliding into a double decker SBS bus as it ploughed across a three-lane road before it rammed through a fence on the divider.
Dashcam footage from another angle sent to The Straits Times shows how the bus careened down the slip road and managed to mow down a tree as well.
According to the police, the crash involved the bus hitting a cyclist, four cars and a lorry. The cyclist — a woman said to have been 47-years-old — was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) conveyed a man in his 60s to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital as well.
The bus driver was arrested promptly for causing death by a negligent act. If found guilty, it’ll be up to two years in jail and/or a fine for the driver.
