Here’s a little distraction from work this Frivolous Friday — a baby flamingo has been plodding around Jurong Bird Park’s Breeding and Research Centre in a custom-made pair of shiny blue booties. Just adorable.

Two-month-old greater flamingo Squish — named for its “squish-ability” — was abandoned as an egg and brought to the centre’s incubation room after keepers discovered it. The egg was kept warm at about 37°C for a month before it hatched on June 7.

Now, Squish roams around the centre to develop its leg strength, and wears soft boots fitted by keepers to protect its foot pads from the hard ground. Formerly weighing just 90.5g, the bird was fed a formula made of eggs and multi-vitamins up to five times a day until it reached its current healthy weight of 1.2kg.

When it turns three months, Squish will join the flock at Flamingo Lake, which houses more than 300 of the birds. We hope it’ll continue stomping around in boots.
