What started out as a regular day for one man turned into a scaly escapade when he discovered a snake coiled under the frame of his car. This morning (June 1) at Desker Road, a man was approached by a foreign worker, who told him he waiting for him to arrive so he could tell him he had seen a snake slither out of the flooded drain around 2am and hide under his vehicle.
Afraid to drive off, the driver, who was in his 20s, called for help. As a small group gathered around the car to watch, Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (Acres) officers rescued the reptile from the wheel of the car — with their bare hands. At least that’s what it looked like in the video, where the male rescuer felt around the wheel and grabbed the reticulated python, pulling it out with help from a female wearing gloves.
Kalai Vanan, deputy chief executive officer of Acres, told The Straits Times that the python “probably entered the vehicle from the bottom of the car”.
“This can happen when they feel threatened, as snakes are shy animals. It is a good hiding spot for them,” he explained.
But before you go around fearfully checking your vehicle for snakes, rest assured that these situations are quite rare.
