WATCH: Ancient history of Singapore explained in video essay

History and politics video essayist Epimetheus has touched on many stories of nations in his mini documentaries on Youtube, and his latest study focuses on the ancient past of Singapore, way before it became the world’s most expensive city to live in.

Dedicating only a little more than a minute to when founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew took over, Epimetheus focuses on the ancient Asian empires that helped contribute to making Singapura into a trading port notable enough to attract the attention of the British. The role of Sir Stamford Raffles is commended in the progress of the country — but more discerning individuals would know that he’s quite the asshole.

Nonetheless, “History of Singapore explained in 5 minutes” is still worth a watch for some light edutainment — it should at least explicate that the Little Red Dot’s annals are far deeper than what SG50 would have you believe.
