Watch 20 short films, from docu-dramas to comedies, by young local filmmakers

#SupportLocal by checking out 20/20 — The Temasek Short Film Project. In a bid to groom aspiring filmmakers, 20 groups from eight schools in Singapore have been tasked to share stories from local communities in the form of 20 short films. Mentored by seven established homegrown filmmakers, including Boo Jun Feng, Sanif Olek, Wee Li Lin and Boris Boo, the young students took inspiration from real-life tales drawn from the work of non-profit philanthropic organisations.

Topics tackled by the shorts range from social issues like an aging population and mental health problems, to sweet stories of kindness and hope. Genres include docu-dramas, comedies and animations.

Teams hail from schools like LASALLE College of the Arts, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Polytechnic and School of the Arts, and each group was given six to nine months to produce the film. Watching the videos, you’ll probably recognise notable faces like Maxi Lim from Ah Boys to Men and local actors Nick Shen and Ye Shi Pin.

This initiative will launch four short films every week for five consecutive weeks, and so far, eight are up on the site. If you vote for your favourite one each week, you can not only encourage the team behind the video, but also stand a chance to win a GoPro camera. ‘Love Exists’ seems to be the most popular one as of now — it’s a tragic tale of a young girl, whose life was turned upside down when her parents passed away.
