New year, new climates. Gone are our sweater weather days of December; sweaty weather days are here to stay instead.
According to the National Environmental Agency (NEA), it was a very warm and dry past weekend, with temperatures soaring to 34.5°C at Ang Mo Kio on Sunday.
“The dry weather can be attributed to moisture in our surrounding region being drawn into a low pressure system over southern Thailand, resulting in fewer clouds and warmer temperatures over Singapore,” the agency explained.
We especially pity those who had to be in Sembawang yesterday afternoon — NEA recorded a high of 35.1°C at 3pm on Monday.
But relief should come soon, the weather wizards foresee. NEA expects the warm conditions to ease up in the next couple of days, with the return of our old frenemy: thundery showers in the afternoon.
