The boarding gate slide at Changi Airport’s swanky, high-tech Terminal 4, which opened two years ago in fall 2017, might be a familiar sight to those of us living in Singapore, but apparently, it’s only recently gotten on the radar of the greater world wide web.
A video that shows a man named Yusuf El Askary going down the slide at Terminal 4 was shared by the travel-oriented Facebook page UNILAD Adventure, which created quite an online stir overseas.
In the video, the 28-year-old pharmacist can be seen scanning his boarding pass to get through the barriers at the slide’s entrance, before sliding down to get to the bottom floor.
El Askary’s video was posted on the British media company’s Facebook page on Friday July 5, and has since gotten over 33 million views and has been shared over 42,000 times.
El Askary told The Daily Mail that: “I had never seen anything like it at an airport — I couldn’t believe it was true until I actually tried it!“
Many commenters responded by recounting their own experiences at Changi Airport, including some Singaporeans who chimed in to admit that they didn’t even know that the slide existed before viewing this video.
The now-famous slide in this video isn’t even the superstar of the airport’s slide attractions: There is another 40-foot slide in Terminal 3 that debuted in the airport back in 2010 and, according to Changi Airport’s official website, holds the title of “world’s tallest slide inside an airport.”
In order to gain access to these slides, passengers need to have spent at least S$10 at any restaurant or retail store in the airport. Note that there’s also a limit on the number of rides you can take — a maximum of 10 per receipt — and, rides can only be redeemed on the same day as stated in the receipt.
