Video: Local singer mysteriously loses voice for two years, launches arts group to give voice to others

Local singer-songwriter Crystal Goh was in the midst of building her career in 2011 when she lost her voice without warning.

She was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition spasmodic dysphonia, and remained voiceless for two years.

During this period, when Goh was struggling with everyday activities like ordering food at a hawker centre and trying to let herself be heard at a work meeting, she wrote a song to remind herself of the importance of hope. As she shared the song with others, her voice miraculously returned.

Today, Crystal Goh is busy running the show at Diamonds on the Street, an arts collective made up of people from marginalised groups and communities that aim to convey the message of hope through music and stories.
