A bus full of Singaporean passengers was involved in a major accident on the Karak-Kuala Lumpur Expressway on Saturday afternoon.
The Singapore-bound bus had left Genting Highlands at about 1pm that day, transporting 11 Singaporean passengers, a Malaysian driver, a Malaysian co-driver, and a Malaysian bus conductor. The accident occurred hours later around 3:30pm when the bus crashed right into the rear of a gravel lorry.
Malaysian police who spoke to the media noted that the conductor, identified as 26-year-old Carles Lagan, died on the spot. Thirteen others were injured and conveyed to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and Selayang Hospital.
One of the Singaporean bus passengers who spoke to Bernama stated that the bus had driven at high speed, and everyone was thrown off their seats upon impact.
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that its officers have already visited the injured Singaporeans and will continue to assist them and their next-of-kin.
