Of recent days, many shook their heads in dismay hearing about a fatal accident that transpired last Saturday morning at Ang Mo Kio, in which a single mother was killed by a 17-year-old unlicensed driver.
46-year-old Lau Lee Kiau was on the way to work, riding together with her boyfriend on his motorbike. The teenager, who’d been driving a rental car, had crashed into the motorbike along the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2, killing the woman and severely injuring her boyfriend. The unlicensed driver fled the scene, but was arrested the same day.
Though it was unclear how exactly the accident happened, a dashcam footage has emerged online on the Roads.sg Facebook page. Watch below as the transgressing car — driving from the opposite direction — plowed into several other vehicles (including the bike Lau was on) before mounting the road divider. A word of warning though; it’s pretty unpleasant.
Lau’s boyfriend has since been discharged from hospital yesterday, sustaining injuries on his back and fractures on his leg.
According to a report by The New Paper, the son of the woman who died shares mutual friends with the teen who killed his mother. “He is heartless,” he says. “He knows who I am, and he knows that I know that he is the culprit, but he has not even apologised”.
