The choir from St John’s College, Cambridge, happened to performing at the Esplanade in Singapore during this period and had offered to sing at the Lying in State of the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.
Singapore’s first Prime Minister had not been a student of St John’s, but had had friends there, when he and his wife Kwa Geok Choo were studying in Cambridge. Said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, one of his parents’ favourite places there was St John’s Bridge of Sighs.
Thee choir sang a rendition of “Home”, the theme song of the 1998 National Day Parade, first sung by Kit Chan.
