The lady who was hit by a falling glass door at Alexandra Central Mall is suffering multiple serious injuries that require regular dosages of morphine painkillers to help alleviate her pain.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the 47-year-old victim is now receiving treatment in a high dependency ward in National University Hospital, afflicted by head injuries as well as lacerations to her liver.
Multiple fractures along her legs and pelvic bone would mean that she will have to undergo surgery to help support and stabilize the spine, her sister revealed to Shin Min. According to her, the victim would “cry out in agony” every time the painkiller wears off.
The hunt for the leaker
The freak accident at the mall took place last Sunday afternoon, but CCTV footage that caught the moment of impact found its way online.
The clip depicted how the lady got injured after entering the lift lobby of the mall’s carpark on the fourth floor. One of the double glass doors got dislodged and fell directly onto her, and it took two people — her husband and her brother — to lift the 100kg door off her.
Aside from ensuring that all of its glass doors are undergoing safety inspections, Alexandra Central Mall management is on the hunt for the person who leaked the CCTV footage online. The mall’s spokesman informed AsiaOne that it would be taking “firm actions” against the leaker (or leakers), as it breached security protocol and violated the victim’s privacy.
