Over the past two decades, Singaporean music veteran Art Fazil has performed all over the world and garnered several awards for his craft — but with Polling Day looming ahead (hint: it’s tomorrow) , he wants to assure you that your vote is indeed secret.
Amidst conspiracy theories, coffee-shop talk and social media rumblings that the government has ways to find out who you voted for (mainly because of the serial number on each ballot paper), Art wrote an extensive Facebook post that should squash all doubts. Yes yes, the Election Department website dedicates a whole section explaining why your vote is secret, but why take it from them when you’ve got a chill bro like Art Fazil elucidating the whole thing?
As a volunteering counting agent for the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) back in the 2011 general elections, he experienced for himself just how strenuous the whole process of counting our votes, and how secure they are from tampering. No one can even open up the boxes which store the ballot papers, “not the PAP, the government, the opposition, not King Kong, not even Ah Kong LKY” he says.
“The moral of the story is no one can check on who you voted for. Your vote is absolutely secret. No shit about that.”
“The only way for people to know who you voted for is if you put it up on your Facebook status,” which is something you really can expect throughout the whole of tomorrow.
Your Vote Is Secret. Is it?1. In GE 2011 I volunteered to be the counting agent for SDP. I was assigned to Woodgrove…
