ComfortDelGro has announced that all its 16,600 taxis will be installed with in-vehicle cameras from Dec. 16.
The J002B cameras, which will be installed for free and are equipped with a 140-degree focus lens and a 2.7-inch LCD screen, can function well in low-light scenarios and are able to record happenings outside the cabs.
They are programmed to start recording the moment the engine is turned on and are able to do so continously for up to four hours.
Additionally, when the camera detects a sudden jerk to the cab, one-minute video recordings will immediately be activated.
ComfortDelGro assures that passengers’ privacy will not be compromised as the cameras, positioned behind the rear view mirror, can be adjusted to face inward.
Says taxi driver Ong Thiam Koon, “the camera is effective such that it is able to not only produce evidence to resolve traffic disputes, but also captures passengers boarding the taxi and prevents them from alighting without paying their fares”.
