All was not full of love yesterday morning as a bloodied up body was found outside the prayer hall of Chua Chu Kang Lian Sing Keng temple.
The Straits Times reports that 53-year-old Tan Poh Huat was found dead by temple executive committee member Tan Kui Seng, who received a rude shock when he unlocked the gates in the morning as usual. The deceased had been living in the temple for the past five years, and receiving social assistance as well as dialysis treatment for his kidney problems.
His kidneys weren’t the cause of his death however — it is understood that he sustained a head injury, and he left a 2m-long trail of blood outside the temple’s prayer hall. Speaking to The New Paper, the victim’s siblings noted that he had a habit of counting his stacks of money in public — and he had received a sum of money amounting to $10,000 just days before.
No money was found on his body yesterday.
He was pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene a little after 7am. The case has been classified as one of unnatural death, and foul play has not been ruled out yet.
