The world’s longest non-stop flight to or from the United States was launched yesterday — United Airlines will operate the route between Singapore and Los Angeles, bringing passengers on daily flights across the 14,000km journey.
With flight times at about 15 hours from Singapore to Los Angeles and 18 hours on the return route, this will allow passengers to save about two hours of travel time each way, reported The Straits Times.
Before this, the record was held by Qantas’ 13,800km flight between Dallas and Sydney, as well as United’s 13,592km route between San Francisco and Singapore, Channel NewsAsia noted.
Flight UA38 will depart Changi Airport at 11am (Singapore time) and arrive at Los Angeles International Airport at 11:15am (Singapore time) the same day. The return flight UA37 will depart Los Angeles at 9:25pm (Singapore time) and arrive in Singapore at 6:20am two days later.
This makes the American airline the only carrier to operate a direct flight between Singapore and Los Angeles.
Both United’s Los Angeles and San Francisco routes are operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which can take about 250 passengers.
