The two arguably largest social media entities in Singapore — SMRT Ltd (Feedback) and Xiaxue — are back at each other’s throats yet again, but this time it seems that the trolls are at the losing end.
Earlier today, the nation’s most infamous bunch of trolls announced on their Facebook page some shocking news; they’ll be revealing their identities tomorrow at noon, as required under a court order issued by the State Court.
This development follows an originating summons sent to the anonymous group by lawyers representing Wendy Chang aka Xiaxue, who has utilised the recently passed Protection from Harassment Act. In a blogpost published this morning, she lists down the reasons why she has chosen to take SMRT Ltd to court, including disparagement of character, harassing and compromising the safety of her family members and presenting a platform for ‘third party attacks’.
In a sinister turn of events, she mentions that an individual had camped out at her carpark to take pictures of her, following her Protection Order against SMRT Ltd on Jan 29.
Understandably, the trolls have posted a disclaimer on their Facebook page in a bid to protect themselves from any legal action. Though the group has publicly acknowledged the court order on Facebook, it seemed that all was well initially:
Their new post however sees them changing tack. But will they really surrender their public identities tomorrow, or is this just another set-up to a ‘Fuck you, Xiaxue’? We’ll just have to wait and see.
