What began as an initially awkward encounter ended as an affirmative experience for Guangtong Li, who had a touching moment with a deaf Uber driver on his way home.
Being a talkative person by nature, Li admitted that he was uncomfortable at first when he was not able to communicate with Andrew, the driver. Since words couldn’t be spoken out loud, Li decided to converse with him through the medium of typing words on the iPhone — and that’s when he learned of Andrew’s story. Having just lost his job as a draftsman, Andrew maintains a positive outlook while providing for his family — a deaf wife and three able children — as an Uber driver.
Following the journey, a clearly affected Li reflected about the impact of the Uber ride:
“Sometimes in life we are get so upset or disappointed with issues that seem so big and important to us. However if we slow down a little to reflect, nothing cannot be solved as long as our heart is healed first. It’s always about perception and attitude. I really hope Andrew is able to inspire and give us all hope and strength that nothing is impossible.”
