Typhoon Kujira hit the South China Sea over the last couple of days and intensified into a tropical storm, creating adverse weather conditions that forced a SilkAir flight from Singapore to make an emergency landing in Haikou yesterday.
The Sanya-bound Flight MI8334 departed Singapore at 7.05am but was unable to land due to strong tailwinds from the regional typhoon, forcing the plane divert to Haikou, the capital city of Hainan in China.
Channel NewsAsia reports that arrangements were made to transfer the affected passengers to Sanya by high-speed rail.
