A two-year-old toddler miraculously survived falling from the 11th floor of an HDB flat in Sengkang on Sunday morning, and according to Shin Min Daily News, the boy probably had his diapers to thank.
Footage of the incident’s aftermath had gone viral on Sunday afternoon, depicting the crying child being attended to by multiple passersby. Injured but conscious, the boy was found lying on a grass patch at the foot of Block 182A Rivervale Crescent around 10am that morning and was quickly conveyed to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. A doctor who was at the scene told The Straits Times that the boy sustained various injuries on the left side of his body, including fractured bones and a “gaping wound” on his arm. The doctor helped stabilize the child’s neck until paramedics arrived.
TODAY reported that the boy to be in stable condition later that night.
According to media reports, it is believed that the boy had been standing on a stool and fell out from the window of his home on the 11th story of the block. One eyewitness was told Shin Min that the child’s diapers had caught on the clothes rack of a fourth-floor unit, and dampened the serious impact that the two-year-old could have sustained if nothing broke his fall.
Shin Min also found out that the boy’s parents had installed grills on the kitchen window but had forgotten to close it, leading to boy climbing out.
