Two 16-year-olds took their prank too far by trying to scare a store employee with a toy gun in Yishun.
The Singapore Police Force last night said they have arrested the two male teens for criminal intimidation after being alerted to a call from an unnamed store along Yishun Street 22 on Monday at 7:04am.
According to the police, the teens had planned to scare the staff for “fun.” One teen approached the cashier for payment and whipped out a toy pistol and pointed it at the staff who was scanning the item, all while the other teen recorded the incident.
When the staff shouted at them, they laughed it off revealing that the gun was fake.
With help from the surveillance cameras installed, the police managed to track the prankers down within three hours.
The toy gun, their clothing and the phone used to record have been seized by the authorities.
The police reiterated that they have “zero tolerance” for such behavior that causes “unnecessary alarm” to the public.
Singapore has strict policies on allowing realistic-looking toy weapons through immigration checkpoints. Authorities have seized countless toy guns, swords and accessories on top of illegal goods.
If found guilty of criminal intimidation, they face up to 10 years in jail and a fine.
