Two more void-decks will be converted to art galleries come April this year to celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday.
The void-decks of blocks 749 and 750 at Jurong West St 73 will showcase some 30 artworks depicting significant events, people and products in Singapore.
Social Creatives, the people responsible for the initiative, plans to bring the arts closer to the community.
Residents interviewed by Channel NewsAsia welcomed the idea, saying it helps educate the younger generation about Singapore’s history and makes the area they live in more lively, apart from exposing them to the arts.
The other two exisiting void-deck art galleries are in Pipit Road and Holland Avenue, launched in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
