Two men, aged 34 and 35, have been arrested for stealing from a woman in Orchard Road. On Monday at 3:45pm, the woman lodged a police report after realizing that someone stole her wallet, which contained S$800 in cash and multiple credit cards.
According to The Straits Times, she discovered her wallet was missing at Takashimaya department store in Ngee Ann City.
After conducting investigations, the police handcuffed two suspects in Geylang at 10:30pm the same day, and the woman’s wallet and belongings were recovered, Channel NewsAsia noted.
It is believed that the duo collaborated to nick the items from the woman — one man was said to have blocked her way, while the other plucked out the items from her bag.
The pair is also suspected to be involved in another case of theft along Orchard Road and will be charged today. If convicted, they may face jail time of up to three years and/or a fine.
In light of this, the police have advised the public to be vigilant of their surroundings and safeguard their belongings when in crowded areas, especially during the year-end festive season.
