Two men arrested for serial theft of… EZ-Link card readers

If EZ-Link cards were stolen, that would be normal. But why the hell would anyone steal EZ-Link card readers from buses?

Two men, aged 21 and 25, have been arrested on Mar 4 for involvement in a series of theft of EZ-Link card readers from SMRT buses, which were reported stolen in January. The bus drivers must’ve been bewildered to find that they were missing before starting their work shifts.

Both men will be charged in court for the offence of theft with common intention, for which they may be sentenced to a maximum term of imprisonment of three years and/or a fine.

It is unclear what the thieves wanted to use the card readers for.
