Tragedy struck in the wee hours of Saturday morning along the causeway bordering Singapore and Johor Bahru, where an accident involving five vehicles left two people dead and three others injured.
The multi-vehicle collision involved a trailer, a lorry, and three motorcycles. According to various media reports, the 30-year-old trailer driver was arrested for suspected drink driving, while a 23-year-old lorry driver was arrested for allegedly causing death by rash act.
Dashcam footage captured the startling moment when a lorry careened into oncoming traffic. The aftermath of the accident resulted in a two-hour closure of all lanes on the Causeway bridge to Johor Bahru.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at 1am, dispatching three ambulances and a fire engine to the accident site. A 21-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 37-year-old motorcyclist, a 42-year-old motorcyclist and the lorry driver were conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
The 42-year-old casualty — a Singapore permanent resident — succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital. The rest of the men involved in the accident are Malaysians, The Straits Times reports.
Tragedy struck again early Sunday morning at Woodlands Checkpoint, this time involving four cars. The departure viaduct had to be temporarily closed at 4:05am, and was only reopened around 5:30am.
Photos and videos shared on social media showed the severely damaged cars blocking the entire viaduct.
According to a Channel NewsAsia report, police were alerted to the accident about 3:20 am, while the SCDF responded to the same call 10 minutes later. Two male car drivers incurred minor injuries and were taken conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
