By 2016, two hotels will stand in place of the former Joo Chiat Police Station.
Earlier this year, Keong Hong Holdings won a tender for the heritage site with a highest bid of $352.8 million.
The new complex will house the 131-room Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong, 451-room Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong, as well as food and retail outlets.
This will be Singapore’s first Hotel Indigo boutique, and also its largest Holiday Inn Express. Both hotel chains are managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).
Senior Vice President of IHG, Mr. Clarence Tan said, “There is a great story to tell with the rich heritage of the Joo Chiat area, which makes it the perfect location for our first Hotel Indigo. We will design the hotel to bring out the neighbourhood story in true Hotel Indigo fashion. Opening our third Holiday Inn Express alongside it means we are able to help our value-conscious guests experience the authentic ethnic cultures of Singapore from a whole new part of the city.”
