Once again, Bishan’s popular Kim San Leng Food Centre has been hit with a suspension. The first time was a rat problem that caused the entire food centre to close temporarily; now, it’s the zi char stall that failed to keep its premises cockroach-free. It has been suspended for two weeks, starting Tuesday (Jul 25).

After committing a couple health violations over the past year, Happy Garden Seafood received 16 demerit points — four for failing to keep its space clean, and 12 for its cockroach infestation. It was also fined $1,100 and told to send all food handlers to attend the Basic Food Hygiene Course before resuming work, reported Channel NewsAsia.

Meanwhile, a Gelare outlet in Causeway Point was also ordered to shutter for two weeks starting on Tuesday (Jul 25), according to TODAY. The cafe violated the offence of failing to keep its premises free from cockroach infestation twice over the past year, receiving 12 demerit points in the process. The suspension will last till Aug 7, and the owners have been fined $800.

According to the National Environment Agency, any food licensee who accumulates 12 or more demerit points during a 12-month period may have the licence suspended for two or four weeks, or cancelled.
