UPDATE: Rui En herself has made a statement about the incident, clarifying that she actually said “Do you know who I am, I live upstairs and won’t run”. Huh.
Known to be one of the more consummate local actresses in the entertainment industry, Mediacorp actress Rui En might be shedding some of her large fan following soon after this.
The Channel 8 darling was reportedly involved in a drink-driving incident that saw her losing control of her BMW in a carpark in Clementi, knocking down a parked motorcycle and driving on a kerb in the process.
Lianhe Wanbao reports that the police have confirmed — but did not name Rui En — that a 35-year-old female driver is currently assisting in the investigation of an accident that transpired yesterday afternoon.
According to a witness, the accident took place at about 4.10pm in the carpark at the foot of block 332 along Clementi Avenue 2. 52-year-old Bahrom Sarmiten could only watch as he saw his motorcycle get hit by a black BMW, and rushed to help stop the out-of-control car.
According to him, he had to knock a few times before the driver stopped. Apparently she tried to shield her face and got out of the car wearing sunglasses. The first thing she allegedly said was “Do you know who I am?”, as she emerged smelling of alcohol.
Not having a clue who she was, Bahrom refused her offer of $2,000 in cash to pay for the damages to his bike. He thought that it would not be enough to cover the severe damage to his bike. Furthermore, he didnt think that she was being apologetic for the accident.
In response, she said “I’m giving you $2,000 and it’s not enough? It’s cash, you know?”, according to him. He would have said yes to more than $6,000 — an amount sufficient enough for a down payment on a new motorbike.
Later on, the police arrived and gave the actress a breathalyser test before carting her away in a police car.
We’re sure reporters will be swarming all over her this Sunday for the Star Awards, where she’ll be receiving her “All Time Favourite Artiste Award”. Welp, she definitely won’t be winning anything — not even favours — from the Traffic Police.
