Local education agency Star Zest Home Tuition, is facing 37 counts of breach of privacy under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), and will be charged on June 4.
It is the first company in Singapore to breach the Do Not Call Registry (DNC) requirements under the PDPA.
The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) released a statement today saying that it received several complaints from members of the public about unsolicited telemarketing messages sent by the tuition center.
The Commission added that, “any person or organisation found guilty of the offence of sending telemarketing messages to Singapore telephone numbers without checking the DNC Registry will be liable to a fine of up to $10,000 per message sent.”
