Tribute page confirms Zouk’s departure from Singapore nightlife scene

An official website has been set up to pay tribute to one of the longest standing heavyweights in the Singapore nightlife scene, Zouk.

At last check, the Save Zouk website has garnered 1,700 “voices” or pledges of love towards the iconic, world-favourite club, which is expected to move out of its Jiak Kim Street location by the end of the year.

A video featuring local celebrities like DJ Rozz, Earn Chen, Jade Seah, Patricia Mok and Shigga Shay has also been uploaded, alongside a rather emotional message that more or less confirms Zouk’s closure:

“We love you, and before you kiss us goodbye… We’re planning our last ZoukOut this year + a series of big bang parties before our lease on Jiak Kim Street expires at the end of this year. Yes, just 6 months. No extension. No new venue despite our best efforts to secure one.”

The “Save Zouk” movement is a petition of sorts — on their Facebook page, Zouk pleas to the public to “lend their ‘voices'” via the website — but if Singapore’s persistent butchering of distinct landscapes in the past years is anything to go by, this looks to be the end of an era, golden as it was.
