Though the early morning showers were a welcome weather to wake up to today, it wasn’t as such to motorists commuting along Geylang East Central, where a large tree toppled onto the road.
The heavy downpour and strong winds caused the tree to fall sometime before 6:45am, obstructing at least one lane of the road and resulting in a massive traffic jam that stretched about 300m, according to a Straits Times photojournalist who happened to be at the scene.

Other witnesses reported that the obstruction was serious enough to be “impassable” for large vehicles.
SBS Transit also posted an alert on Twitter about a few bus services that had to be diverted this morning.
Pls be informed that svc 155, 134 and 80 are diverted along Geylang East Central due to road impassable from fallen tree.

It was only at about 9:22am that SBS updated that the bus diversions along Geylang East Central has ceased, presumably after the fallen tree was cleared from the road.
Please be informed that diversion along Geylang East Ctrl for Svc 80, 134 & 155 has ceased.

The tree fall should signify the beginning of the Northeast Monsoon season in Singapore — the Public Utilities Board has started issuing flood advisories to over 600 business and residents in low-lying flood-prone areas.
