Currently on extended medical leave after fracturing his arm, Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan resurfaced on social media to give the public an update about his condition.
Instead of a skateboarding accident, the 66-year-old mentioned that he broke his left arm due to an accident at home, implying that he might have jumped out of his bed.
“At our age, it’s important to get up, pump the heart, stand up, feel that you are steady before taking the first step,” he advised his fellow senior folks.
Thanking everyone for their well-wishes, the minister stated that he’s “fully prepared” for an upcoming surgery tomorrow — but recovery can take several weeks, he said.
“I’m in the best of hands and looking forward to a full recovery.”
Minister for Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam dropped a cheeky message for his colleague.
While Khaw is out of action, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan is taking over his duties as the Acting Minister for Transport. A crucial role to play right now, especially since Singapore and Malaysia are still trying to come to an agreement over several transport matters, including the dispute over the maritime borders off Tuas and potential encroachments of airspace over Johor when Seletar Airport is operational.
While Dr. Balakrishnan takes over the bilateral talks, other high-ranking members of the government will assist. Senior Minister of State Dr. Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State Dr. Janil Puthucheary and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Baey Yam Keng will assist Minister Balakrishnan on other transport matters and in the Committee of Supply debate.
