Yesterday was a very terrible day for SMRT (and the state of the country’s public transport), but our commuting troubles are not over just yet. According to the public transport operator, train services on the East-West Line (EWL) between Joo Koon and Tuas Link MRT stations are suspended for now.
As early as 4:43am this morning, SMRT announced the suspension of train services, with free regular and bridging services available between the two stations all day long.

Of course, this would be due to the fact that Joo Koon MRT station was the site of a collision between two trains yesterday that left 29 people injured. The accident was caused by a software protection feature that was “inadvertently removed” when a train passed by a faulty signaling circuit, and said train gave off a profile of being a three-car train instead of six. Thus, the misjudgment of distance between that train and another one, resulting in the collision.
Thankfully, it’s business as usual for train services on the North-South Line (NSL).

But frustrations are still running high after yesterday’s disruption of train services three times — signaling faults caused delays on both the Circle Line and the EWL in the morning rush hour, while the commuters faced severe delays on the NSL in the evening.
