No escape at all from the blight of train delays this week. After a track fault caused some woe for commuters along SMRT’s East-West Line (EWL) on Monday, it was the commuters along SBS Transit’s North East Line (NEL) who had their morning ruined during today’s rush hour.

The public was alerted to a train fault at Little India MRT Station around 7:30am, adding another 15 minutes travel time for city-bound commuters.

Not long after, free bridging buses were provided between Outram and Potong Pasir MRT stations because train services were completely crippled between both stations. And in both directions too.

SBS Transit then heaped another 15 minutes to the delay in travel time due to trains moving at a much slower speed. The entire NEL — from the Punggol end to the Harbourfront end — was affected in both directions. It was warned that MRT stations would be crowded (no kidding).

It was only around 9:18am that the NEL returned to regular service.
